10 books that stay with you

Postby mina » Sat Sep 06, 2014 9:13 pm

Yes, It's that list that is all over FB. I was challenged, but I feel lazy about FB lately. And I have a few friends that take even that as a chance to argue or debate how I would feel about a book and so I feel meh about putting it there. So I am asking all of you; and I'll put mine down too in a little bit.

The game: list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. They do not have to be great works of literature. Do not think about it too much!

OK. I can't remember those titles. I'll go with other books :D

1. Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien
2. Peace Child by Don Richardson
3. The Space trilogy by CS Lewis
4. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
5. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
6. Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
7. Twlight series by Stephenie Meyer (yes, I see the eye rolling out there. I don't care :P)
8. Sophie Scholl And the White Rose by Jud Newborn and Annette Dumbach
9. The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom
10. Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan

That was actually easier than I thought. Once I started listing books, they just kept coming. They're still coming. Ohhh... I need a longer list :(

In no order; These are books I'm always thinking about or saying a phrase from, etc…

1. The Giver by Lois Lowery- I read this every few years or so. I will not see the movie. It's such an odd book, but really powerful along with the companions.
2. War Brides by Lois Battle- I read this book for the first time this summer. I've thought of it every day almost since then.
3. 1984 by George Orwell- I read this book every few years as well. I'm always relating things to it or repeating phrases.
4. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery- I quote this ad nauseum.
5. Jacob Have I loved by Katherine Patterson
6. Christy by Catherine Marshall
7. Lyddie by Katherine Patterson
8. Hitler's Daugher by ? - This is an odd book. It's a YA book, but it really made me think.
9. Little House on the Prairie series- It's always made me want to travel.
10. Hamlet

I guess mine is a mix of childhood books and books I read in adulthood. Honorable mention is I Capture the Castle.

I thought of Jacob Have I Loved, but I had too many books for the list as it was.

Apparently this status was so big (though my friend list is so small that I haven't seen it and didn't know about it until this thread) that major data was extracted from it. Here's an Atlantic article about it: http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/a ... ve/379797/

To Kill a Mockingbird and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn should have been on my list. Why wasn't this list 20 books long?

Oh the Great Gatsby. And Great Expectations. Also amazing books.

And I Love You Forever By Robert Munsch. I can't help but cry when I read it.

The books just keep coming to mind.
